Communities In Schools - Bay Area will host Kids in Crisis: A Summit on Education on October 25 from 7:30-11:30 a.m. at the University of Houston-Clear Lake. The summit is to raise awareness about the changing demographics in Clear Creek ISD and Dickinson Independent School Districts, both served by Communities In Schools-Bay Area. The half-day gathering will address this issue and create community-wide dialog among educators, elected officials, businesses and non-profit organizations. Keynote speaker for the summit will be Dr. Stephen L. Klineberg, founding director of the Kinder Institute for Urban Research and professor of sociology at Rice University. In 1982, Klineberg and his students initiated the annual Kinder Houston Area Survey, now in its 36th year of tracking the remarkable changes in the demographic patterns, economic outlooks, experiences and beliefs of community residents. Following Dr. Klineberg's address, panelists including superintendents Dr. Greg Smith and Vicki Mims and State Senator Larry Taylor will discuss perspectives on education, government/policy and community. Communities In Schools-Bay Area works to keep kids on the path to graduation and beyond. For more information on the dropout prevention program, visit www.cisba.org.
